National Sanitation Dashboard

Sustainable human waste management is needed to address water scarcity

The National Sanitation Dashboard is a tool to display data related to sanitation in an easy-to-understand format for both technical and non-technical audiences. It helps policymakers monitor the progress of cities in managing on-site sanitation, solid waste, and fecal sludge. The dashboard supports the supervision of safe and efficient waste collection and disposal, and aids in evaluating the most suitable and practical technology options. The dashboard is based on data collected from household surveys, expert interviews, and focus group discussions, providing a comprehensive and reliable source of information.

Bangladesh is the first country to adopt the dashboard and it has been intensively applied to capture profiles of faecal sludge and solid waste management of 54 municipalities and 8 city corporations. The dashboard integrates City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) approaches, allowing decision makers to review its outcomes and functions at national and city level.

The National Sanitation Dashboard has sections which cover the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Indicators, infrastructures, institutional capacity and indicators of solid waste management and on-site sanitation and fecal sludge management. Table below presents available information in the dashboard.
