The Fecal Sludge Management Alliance (FSMA) and the African Water Association (AfWA) recently
hosted their first joint event in Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire from February 19-23, 2023. The 21st AfWA
Congress & Exhibition and the 7th International Fecal Sludge Management Conference, aimed to
address the water and sanitation challenges faced by communities worldwide. With over 2000 delegates
from more than 100 countries worldwide, the event provided a platform for organizations to showcase
their missions, strategies, and technologies and collaborate on achieving shared goals.
The Global Water Security Center (GWSC) jointly exhibited with the Technical Assistance (TA) Hub Africa
to showcase their works and create a venue to expand their network to potential partners. The booth
showcased GWSC's research, innovation, and strategies for addressing water and sanitation challenges.
It also presented TA Hub Africa's role in providing technical assistance to African countries to achieve
the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other WASH targets.
The joint event hosted by FSMA and AfWA was a critical step in addressing water and sanitation
challenges in communities worldwide and promoting collaboration among global organizations. The
event provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share their knowledge and best practices, network
with other organizations, and explore innovative solutions for achieving the SDGs and other WASH
targets. The event's success demonstrates the importance of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-
sharing in addressing the water and sanitation challenges faced by communities worldwide.
